Future & Hope is a non-government, independent and voluntary organization that operates to benefit those in need and society as a whole. It was established in the city of Varna, Bulgaria,  “Chernorizets Hrabar” 20 street on  21^st of August 2004.

The organization is set on Christian principles and values. Its main focus is to provide consultation and encouragement for the start of treatment to drug addicts and alcoholics. It also provides assistance to parents and helps reintegrate the rehabilitated.

The idea for creating the organizationstarted in 2001, from the congregation of young people in the Evangelical Pentecostal Church Varna, who had in their hearts the desire to help the people addicted to drugs and alcohol. With the help of the  Swedish organization “Levi Petrus” they established the organization and rented a room to serve as their contact center. This center offered advise and council for the addicts, their families and friends. It offered the encouragement to start treatment in a Christian Rehabilitation center. One year later the foundation “ Levi Petrus” financed  the rent of an apartment for the purposes of extending the activity of the organization into rehabilitation. Along with this, more training was provided to the volunteers working with addicts.

From 2004 to 2005 the organization also worked in rehabilitation. During this period of time 6 boys were rehabilitated. Each of them stayed in the center for the period of 3 months. The rehabilitation included a twelve step program which included, study of the Bible, attending worship at church along with sport and games.

 Here it’s necessary to mention that the rehabilitation work wasn’t done by psychologists and psychiatrists, but from a group of young volunteers, led by God’s love to help people obsessed by drugs and the alcohol. With their help, those who desperately wanted to find the way out made the first steps to change.

At the end of 2005 the association had to stop its rehabilitation activities because it was impossible to provide the team every day round the clock support. The main reason for this was the financing of the organization. Another factor to this change was the opening of Christian centers for rehabilitation (Communes) called RETO in Bulgaria. At the same time many rehabilitated young people started to come back from these type of Communes from abroad.  Seeing the need to help these people with their reintegration, the organization redirected its work in this area. At the moment the organizations is focusing on these points:

-          Provide accommodation for young people in halfway houses for when they come back from Centers for rehabilitation. This is to help with the reintegration process into society and incorporation into the local church;

-          Street work, for making contacts with addicts;

-          Consultation and advise to the parents and the relatives of addicts;

-          Help encourage and motivate addicts to begin treatment in Rehabilitation centers;

-          Organization of meetings, groups and activities between the young rehabilitated people;

Because there is such a lack interest to the problem from society and the government, we from the association “Future & Hope” work with dedicationand  love. We seek to break the myth that the drug and alcohol addiction is incurable.We are the proof for this as many of us are cured addicts and have gone through the same problems and procedures.

As Christians we consider that we have the responsibility to continue this processes in society, we must do everything in our ability to save the future of the thousands of young people that are destroying their lives.
